BOLT NUMBER 14

so, i got a table saw. spent the better part of the morning putting it together and getting familiar with the thing. never take apart something that has a diagram like what you see above. pay special attention to numbers 14 thru 28 - that was the spring loaded part which exploded into i don't know how many pieces when i unscrewed bolt number 14.

i sat there perplexed and scratching my head with a handful of springs, bolts, washers and other little pieces as i wondered if i'd ever get that back together the way it was. i was really thinking i could live without that blade guard but then i realized how much i like my fingers, all ten of them. after a few failed attempts at goin it solo with no help, i realized i had downloaded some info from the makita website regarding this particular saw. i decided it was worth a shot to see what that info included because the manual clearly didn't have a detailed schematic of what i just dismantled.

lo and behold, the second PDF i opened had this lovely diagram right there on the front page staring at me. once again, thank you internets! without that, i would have never been able to put it back together properly.

in the end, i got the 'workshop' cleaned out, partially set up and i actually took the table saw for a test drive as i cut some wood for a quick bench i built against one of the walls. pretty happy with my accomplishments this weekend. finished it off just now with a walk down into town for a much deserved chicken burrito, a vanilla coffee milkshake, a slab of apple sunflower seed cake, a mocha and a relaxed 2 hour screening of "THE HULK" at the embassy theater. nighty night...
