KARRRZ

time for the car to go to the mechanic for some five fingered monkey lovin' - so....
at the recommendation of a co-worker whom i trust, i got up at 6:30 this morning and headed north for a 1 hour car ride up over the Rimatakas. see, i'm testing out this theory that the farther you get from WETA, the more affordable things become. theres this running gag at work. someone says "oh, go shop at ABC location, they'll give you a WETA discount" - the gag is, us out of towners get charged MORE because we are out of towners! that's our WETA discount.
someone mentioned that the farther you get from WETA the more realistic the prices are. sure, this is an extreme case, but i'm not only in it for the cash savings...i'm in it for the adventure of it all. what i experienced today was far cooler and had more value to me than the normal run of the mill .5km drive to the local mechanics where i know all the guys by first name.
when i ended up AAA Auto Wreckers in featherston, that was my view. i enjoyed it.
if i had turned 180˙ and taken a picture, you'd have seen a silver colored warehouse sized building - HUGE - that was filled with all manners of car parts. it reminded me of one of the warehouses on the back lot of Universal where they store all the props. very dark and creepy inside. the surrounding grounds, a car grave yard. when i go to pick up my car in a day or two, i'll shoot some follow up pics. i just snapped this on the quick walk back to my car. note to self and others: there is NOTHING in featherston!

this photo is loren from work whizzing up through the green belt - which also happens to be the road you would take to get to my house. this past sunday wellington's car club sponsored a day of hill climb racing. 51 cars took 4 turns each in an attempt to claim that top prize for fastest time up the hill. i was out and about that morning walking the route and doing some sound recording. happened to grab a snap or two as well. i gotta get up early more often - the light during those hours is amazing.
the only really bad thing i have to say about this event would be the fact that i died a little that day from all the exhaust i was exposed to. and let me tell ya, by the end of the day, i could differentiate between the exhaust from a mini and the exhaust from a super charged yute - neither one tasted good goin down. where's that wellington wind when you need it?
