DICK SMITH AND LITTLE LINDA

we were gifted with the presence of another film industry legend tonight. Dick Smith of Amadeus, The Exorcist as well as a whole host of other films i'm too lazy to name at the moment. he is a make up artist extraordinaire who shared his knowledge far and wide throughout his career. he shared some interesting stories about bobby dinero who was being made up with the bald head for taxi driver. bobby (dick's wording, not mine) was his own harshest critic as he nit-picked every last little detail about the specks of hair that were glued to his head to simulate stubble.

i was fortunate enough to sit next to one of Dick Smith's female students (she'll kill me because i forgot her name as quickly as i learned it) who had not yet made it into the working world of the film industry. needless to say she was a bit blown away to be seeing not only Dick Smith (one of her heros) speak, but also Gino Acevedo and Richard Taylor - two of today's modern whiz bang hotshots. but what i think REALLY blew her mind was when Peter Jackson came (barefoot of course) and sat down directly in front of her. i suppose ANY true film geek (as she clearly was) would be taken aback by such an event. for me? just another day at work...

through watching her and taking careful note myself, i was brought back to my humble reality where i truly am grateful for the opportunities i've had and continue to have over the years. often i'm reminded of another friend's words when he said "who's life am i living, anyway"?

side note, PJ sure does know his film trivia. he kept leaning over to share his plethora of knowledge with his son ... clearly, i'm no film geek.

forgive my crappy photo above which was taken with my PHONE. i noticed Gino was handing his camera to Richard Taylor and having him bend sideways to shoot some snaps...so, until i can get one of those from Gino, this will have to do.

this weekend... hot air ballooning with jenn in carterton! weeeee!
