A VISITOR

i have to share this because it is just too odd not to. ok, lets go back in time to when i was a kid, a small kid who still had fears in the world. our family was not the theater going type by any means...in fact, i can't recall ever going to a movie before the one you see in the image above. yes, that's right, "Alien" was the first movie i ever saw at the ripe age of 13 (yeah yeah, do the math).

my parents took my brother and i to see the premier at the paramount studios lot as i recall. not only was i too young to see this film, my brother was 3 years younger and looking back i can clearly see why my mother escorted him to the lobby. not exactly the kind of film you take a 10 year old to now is it. =)

anyway, my dad got invited to this premier screening so they thought it would be cool to take a family roadtrip up to hollywood. i can't tell you what kind of impression this movie had on me back then. i recall being pretty taken in by the film, so much so that i had to duck my head behind the seat in front of me when the chest burster made its appearance. it was quite a while afterward until i actually found out what happened at that stressful, pivotal point in the film. that may well have been the point too where my mom ushered my little screaming brother into the lobby where she left him to wait for us to finish watching this epic film. nah, i'm kidding...what kind of mother do you think i have anyway? jeez...

fast forward all these few short years into the future where i'm now WORKING on movies down in lil ol' new zealand (wonder if "Alien" had something to do with my career choice?). along comes jim cameron with his brand new, 10 years in development, epic sci fi feature film - "Avatar". for those of you who didn't know...sigourney weaver was the star of the first Alien film. yes, there were many after that initial film - jim cameron directed the second in the series actually.

well, sigourney was cast in "Avatar" because, well, ... because jim wanted her for his film and from some of the stories circulating around the interweb (stuff i've read anyways) - what jim wants, jim gets. period.

long story short, sigourney came into work the other day to have a chat with the animators about her character in this new film. i didn't bump into her or see her or anything but it felt strangely odd that this transpired like it did what with my history and all. its a bizarre kind of closure.

i'm not gonna say anymore because jim would have my balls in a sling if i did ...and quite frankly...i like my balls right where they are thank you. you can check out his crazy new epic sci fi sometime toward the end of 2009 - Dec 18th me thinks. wow, it seems so far away - 467 days, 22 hours, 43 minutes and 15 seconds actually. ugrrrggh!
