STEPPER MOTOR HEAVEN

as the holiday fast approaches fewer and fewer hurdles lie ahead of me. today i visited weta workshop where i met with jordan, one of the many talented individuals who spend their days spinning magic under the tutelage of richard taylor. after many months of patient anticipation, i was finally able to take possession of the motion head i had asked to have built. i must say that jordan and pietro have really outdone themselves with this creation and i can't thank them enough for coming through in the final hour just days before my departure. THANKS GUYS! YOU ROCK!!
you're probably asking yourself what all the fuss is about. well, i was inspired by the films "
Baraka" and "
Koyaanisqatsi" each of which contain either slow motion or time-lapse footage to some extent. what really blew me away and kinda pissed me off though, was the inclusion of moving time-lapse shots. i always scratched my head and wondered how they achieved those. my guess is they had some really
expensive contraption (scroll down near the bottom of that link to "Time-lapse camera movement") similar to what you see above.
anyway, i'll be hauling this gnarly hunk of aluminum technology all around the various red rock national parks in the southern Utah region over the next month.
my only real worry now, is can i get this thing along with all my other baggage through the checkpoint charlie nightmare that international travel has become? i'm layin odds they pull me aside and grill me as to what the thing is. it could easily be mistaken as a BOMB by the uninitiated, so i'm sure interesting times lie ahead. if this blog never gets another update...come bust me outta
gitmo and i'll buy ya a taco!
ps: excuse my forced faux-to-shop blur...didn't like having myself visible in the bg.
