GIMME A TOMATO BASE, FOO !
you'd think that after roughly 6 years of living here in new zealand i'd have gotten the lingo by now.
after spanish class this evening, i stopped by domino's for a little pizza pizza because i was asked to do a little overtime on 'bridge to terabithia' which has NO budget left (that means i gotta feed myself) .... there is so little budget they aren't paying us OT but instead letting us have a little time off down the line. i'm going to capitalize on that this coming weekend and enjoy some camping
here.anyway, back to the point of my story...as i was ordering my pizza pizza (a toni pepperoni) i was asked what kind of base i'd like. instinctively i scratched my head and i just said 'uhm, tomato' - because i wasn't sure what he was asking. in my head i was thinking 'base, base, base...tomato is at the bottom, that's the base i want'. TOMATO!
dummy me, about 5 minutes later as i sat and waited, someone else came in and ordered. as i listened, i started to laugh because the base is actually the CRUST and i was being asked what kind of crust i wanted - thin, regular or thick. imagine that guy's surprise when i answered 'TOMATO'.
reminds me of a favorite corny joke which goes: "how many surrealists does it take to screw in a light bulb"? answer: "couch"
so, the lesson for the evening...when in new zealand and ordering a pizza at dominos, base refers to CRUST and not any part of the fillings.
