DUMP - SKATE - BAKE

what an interesting day so far. it started with my first ever trip to the dump - EVER! i had pulled weeds yesterday to the point of partially mangling my fingers. that's an addictive past time, weedpulling. i ended up filling about 10 grocery bags of undesirable vegetation. with all that i figured it was time for a visit to the dump as i don't think you're allowed or supposed to dump the greens in with normal trash. reminds me of when i sorted the trash while i was down in Antarctica. anyway, it was off to the dump i went with my big ol black bag of nasty weeds. they have a section there just for greens where they'll then turn it into compost. ah! - be sure to separate out the flax first...i didn't ask why that couldn't be included but maybe i'll do so next time.

after the visit to the dump where it cost me 4.00 to dispose of my 10 bags of weeds, i headed into town where i planned on doing some rollerblading. it was a fine day for it so why not? as soon as i started to skate, i'm stopped by dylan, a homeless maori kat, 20 years old, who, after some discussion i come to find out, lives on the street. the government pays him 280.00/NZD a week for doing NOTHING. it's called being on 'the dole'. while hanging with him and chatting he drank what seemed to be one of the last beers in his 12 pack while his buddy seemingly passed out rested on the bench a few feet away. found out he'd been in and out of jail a multitude of times, mostly for violence which he blamed on the alcohol - mainly whisky. kind of reminded me of me when i drank back in the day, only i wasn't the violent type - i was just outta control period.

after about a half hour of chatting with dylan, i headed off for the rest of my skate to check out the waterfront. there is heavy construction going on at the moment but the progress looks promising and the end result will be a nice addition to the area.

upon my return to where i began my skate, i sat down and did a little reading in the sun by the water's edge. people were out aplenty.

when i got back to the house, banana bread had been on my mind so i decided to bust a couple loaves to check out the process as i've never made that before. there's something cool about cooking/baking ... either you get it or you don't. i got a little frightened when i saw them rise so quickly. i thought i was screwed for filling the pans too high but that was ultimately not the case. false alarm. as you can see from the photo, things came out just fine. i'll be sampling some of that later tonight.

i just signed up for linked in. now, i wish i had others to link to. trying to find a little roto work to fill the gap of free time.
