wainuiomata - actors - no affiliation
last night, out in wainuiomata with jamie beard (fellow weta worker) and crew, we set out to get the pick ups for jamie's short film "John Doo - Store Detective". i was on sound this time around.
john bach who played the lead role of John Doo was on hand as well as all the other actors - terri, dez, tony, chad, ratu and ben. it was a quick reshoot that went nearly without flaw...that was, until the 16mm camera's take up motor crapped out on jamie. luckily jamie planned ahead and brought along a DV camera just in case. bright kid that jamie.
have a look at the
photo galleryduring our mandatory 10 minute break, when the camera broke, john, ben and myself had a small chat and something was mentioned about music that led john into a funny little psuedo piss take about rap music and the ignorance associated with it. then he said something that i keep hearing again and again, something that always bothered me. he said something to the effect of 'your music, from your country' - meaning rap music. i had to stop him in his tracks and let him know right off the bat that i don't have "a country". i think the notion of claiming affiliation to a particular piece of dirt is a silly one. i've always thought this and i've never understood why people say those things. is it ignorance or just something that's been ingrained and overlooked?
i'm a human being with two legs, mobility and freedom to go where i choose. now, if i were, for the sake of argument, a redwood tree with giant roots and no means to amble, i might then be more apt to want to claim a particular piece of dirt as 'mine'. it makes more sense to just say 'we're all from the same planet'. all borders do is cause trouble - think about it. the concept is ludicrous.
