Blenheim - Airshow - 2005
the blenheim airshow was happening a week or so ago and mark asked if i'd be interested in tagging along to do some sound recording. i figured since i had this new audio gear, why not, i'm always up for something spontaneous.

well, when we arrived in picton, the little seaside town where we were to pick up our rental car, it dawned on me that i had left my small backpack behind. what'd you expect...our flight departed at o'dark thirty and i hadn't had any coffee yet. i was bound to forget something. all was not lost though because mark had his audio gear and i did manage to bring along half of my stuff (boom, shotgun mic, wind screen).

we arrived in tact at the airshow which was a half hour's drive from picton. it was far more elaborate than i had expected it to be and the enthusiasts were out in force, dressed to the nines and complete with ALL the accessories.

as i understand it, peter jackson is partially responsible for putting on this show. here's a shot of his tank, the same tank i saw just outside work one early morning during the second Lord of the Rings film. just one of the bizarre things that happened during that period.

since i didn't have one of those elaborate cameras with the lens as big as your arm to shoot the planes in action, you instead get cheezy snaps of the planes on the ground. i will say that i was pretty impressed with the turnout, both in terms of the crowd and in terms of the vintage aircraft on display.

mark ended up getting some pretty amazing audio from the weekend's outing. the recordings of the battle reenactments is pretty amazing. i'm sure that'll end up on his
P I R website before too long.
well, it's back to my lazy saturday as i continue to bang things down and move forward. here's the view as i type:
