new attitude and days of discovery...

it's quite amazing what being away from one's normal routine can do to an individual. call it a break, call it gaining perspective, call it what you need to...all i know is that i'm glad it's happening to me. it's invigorating in a way i never even thought possible. being back in california has once again opened my eyes and made me realize the things i had taken for granted three plus years earlier before i went to new zealand.

since i've been back, readjusting to california life has proved to be one giant game of discovery. with each new thing i rediscover it seems part of my memory comes back to me. whether it's been stores i've not seen, internet radio stations i stopped visiting due to bandwidth restrictions, or random products that no longer populated the grocery store shelves where i shopped; it seems each day invites a new find. i feel like a modern day archeologist who is uncovering a life i once knew. seems weird since i've only been away from california for a little over 3 years but it's something that i've been picking up on so i decided to share this experience. here are some of the things that have fallen into the category of newly rediscovered items:

-the matterhorn at disneyland as seen from the 5 fwy
-buffalo chicken wings...spicy little morsels
-urban outfitters...contemporary fashion store
-bjs pizza...the place where we ordered a pizza and swam it back out to the boat we had anchored at laguna main beach.
-quaker oats (flavored)...morning sustenance known as porridge in new zealand
-knac.com...simply, pure rock
-24 hour kinkos...24 hour anything is nice to experience again.
-unlimited bandwidth...new zealand and mexico can learn a few lessons here.
-aldo nova...timewarp rock band
-random famous people stories...i've had three 'famous people' sightings since i've been back. too funny.
-cactus cooler...a soda drink from my past. still need to try one.
-horchata mexican drink (tastes like liquid rice pudding)...wow. yummy stuff.

also, coming soon...news on the antarctica gig.
