sunday. an extremely stormy day out this way. no problem, i'm sitting inside working away and the world is beautiful...that is, until i pull back the curtain and look outside. BUGS!! not a few, not a lot, TONS of BUGS! immediately i go into exterminator mode because this is far too many bugs than can be healthy for any one place. i grab a can of bug spray and head out the back door because the front door is being guarded by this swarm. all is well and good until i get to the end of the driveway where i'm ready to turn the corner and head towards the front door. all of the sudden, the tree at the end of the driveway comes to life as this huge black swell of flying insanity which easily drives me back in a head swatting fit of cowardice behavior. i now know i dislike big swarms of flying bugs.
i don't even attempt a second try, instead it's a full retreat back into the safety of the house. i hastily drop the can of useless bug spray and instead go for the next best thing...the phone and a call to the landlord. beep boop bop boop beep... i wish i had that call recorded because i'm sure it would make for a great accompaniment to this blog entry. it was insane. after i left my message, i grabbed the important things and headed to mark and mona lia's pad for the afternoon. i was truly freaked out and didn't want to be near the swarm AT ALL.
come to find out those bugs were the flies that live along the coastline and feed on the seaweed. i guess they all opted for a stay at casa horhay during that nasty storm. storm's now gone and so is my personal swarm.
thanks to mark and mona lia for putting me up that night also when my car wouldn't start. see, our storms are so bad out here, they cause cars to not start. i guess its a combination of high winds and water getting in the distributor cap or some crap. i dunno...what? do i look like a mechanic? all i know is it didn't start and i had to spend the night. that was by far, the windiest and gnarliest storm i have ever experienced. many times during the evening i thought the windows would blow out. chaos!
