saturday afternoon i hooked with paul now that he's back from his travels to do a bit of filming for his short film. he's doing an amazing job with this thing so far with everything from the physical props, to storyboarding, to making it all come together. i'm anxious to see the finished project which hopefully won't be too far off. he's allowing me to be the spaceman that gets his head blown off.

a funny thing happened though when we were finished. we had headed back to his house which is all the way around the bay, up the hill and around the corner. not close by at all. once we got there, we preceeded to unload the gear from the car. upon doing so, paul took a quick inventory. uh oh!! where's the camera?!?! a scrambled search ensued. NOTHING! ... oh jeez. 'we gotta go back and look for it right now...and quickly' i say. we do. back at moa point where we shot these shots (same place where jill dropped her camera in the ocean and chris gashed his wrist chasing after it), we hurriedly scoured the location and retraced our footsteps as we searched diligently. we were coming up empty handed very quickly. it was not looking good. when we entered the parking lot, i saw a couple in a car leaving, they had a kind of smile on their face. i asked paul if he thought they were smiling because they just picked up his $2000.00 canon video camera. not the appropriate question to ask at this particular time. we searched some more in vain.

paul got in the car as we prepared to depart. i sat down in the car and was about ready to close my door when these four guys yell at us. 'ey guys, GUYS!!...did you lose something'? we both hopped out of the car and they preceeded to ask us a few questions about what we lost. paul answered all the questions correctly and the guy doing the asking revealed paul's camera and returned it to him. we chatted with them for about 10 minutes, expressed our sincerest gratitude, then parted ways. i don't know about you, but i can't help thinking there aren't too many places left on the planet where someone gives back a $2000.00 video camera that was just lost.

the downside to that afternoon of filming and losing gear was the death that was in the air. death you can smell. here's a shot of something that was most certainly contributing to that foul smell.
