yesterday some co-workers and myself went out to lunch at a local cafe, 'carltons'. fish -n- chips were on the menu or in my case a burger and some fries since i don't do fish -n- chips. all was well and good as we secured a seat on the empty back patio, that is, until...SHE arrived. all five of us are minding our business chatting amongst ourselves when this elderly lady approaches our table and says something like "oh, that looks good, what is that you're having?" not to be rude, i reply "it's a cheeseburger". just then she lunges out and makes a grab for my fries.."oh, those chips look good" she says "may i have one?". i was aghast. i actually had to smack her hand and huddle over my plate like a big game cat protecting a fresh kill. the audacity i thought to myself. then she noticed a fry (chip) half on half off of my plate. she asked if she could have that one, i said she may but then told her that i was going to eat the rest of them and that NO, she can't have any more of my fries. the other guys were just as freaked out as i was as you can imagine. we came to find out she was from the old folks home across the street and said they feed her but the food was crap and the veggies boiled until they were mush. shortly after that, she tried her luck at the table behind us and i proceeded to empty my plate of burger and fries. i'm not looking forward to growing old if that's any hint of what i might be in for.
