snowboarding at last

got the chance to do some sliding the other day with josh the painter (captain extreme) and billy the alaskan chef. in the image above, you'll see our path out to castle rock (the dark tall hill to the right is castle rock) with the looming, smoking mt. erebus in the background. the 6-7 mile walk around the castle rock loop beat me up pretty hard but that's probably partly due to the fact that i did the whole thing in my snowboard boots. next time i'll be a bit more wise.

here is a shot of where our boards stopped sliding on the back side of the loop. seems our trail ended right where the kiwi ski field is located. how nice. too bad it wasn't operating on this day. that truck in the foreground is the tow rope that hauls people halfway up the hill behind it. gotta ride that before i get outta here. if you look carefully at the picture, off to the right you can see the flagged, groomed trail we rode down. was a very nice mile long run on the dry corduroy textured snow. the sound the board made as i zipped along in my snake-like fashion was mesmerizing. zzzzzip zzzzzzip zzzzzzzzip zzzzzzip. wish the trail was more like 20 miles long because it went by all too fast.

the jetstream whispy cloud that was blowing past would have made a killer timelapse but i didn't feel like burdening the other guys with a half our pause to the mission at hand. something tells me i should have though. next time i will.
