melting fast

unlike many other places out there, it's been unusually warm down here in antarctica. when i woke up this morning and peered out the window to check the weather, i noticed people walking around in t-shirts. mud is rampant around base as are pools of water and mini rivers of flowing run off water. it's really weird to see this kind of activity in a place where i thought i'd be frozen for most of my time down here.

i hear that they're moving the runway tomorrow which is kinda scary. that's how much things are melting. i hear it's just one giant slush pond out there. i even saw a truck stuck in the snow/slush earlier. it's getting bad down here.

here you can see an example of how warm it's been. someone got a shot of mt erebus with it's reflection in a puddle of water.

when i get a free moment when i'm not totally slammed i'll get that e-mail sent off to the school kids i'm doing a pen pal thing with. i promise. i've been busy with helping some other friends begin their short film project. we began filming today at a location which i can not discuss here as i'm worried it'll get me in trouble.

good to hear from people who are e-mailing me. thanks for the communication. it's very much appreciated.
