happy new year!!

hope everyone has a happy new year up there.

here, troy and i greet you from willy field where they moved the landing strip to after an earlier than usual bit of warm weather. troy and i went to highschool together back in laguna hills. he's a fuelie (person who fuels the aircraft) down here and has been down a few seasons prior to this year. he had no idea that i was down here but i was tipped off that he'd be down here somewhere by mutual friends. i said i'd keep my eyes open for him. the "it's a small world" saying is never more true in this situation.

today (or last night) we got a little storm which brought about 4-6 inches of new snow which was a bit of excitement for those of us who enjoy throwing the odd snowball at our co-workers. it also brought with it another penguin sighting. on the way to work tonight we stopped by where they were earlier in the day and we spotted four adelie penguins; three of which appeared to be sleeping. i shot a few photos so we'll see if they came out at all. they might just end up being little black dots because of the distance.

i've just passed my halfway mark for my antarctic stay, so it's all downhill from here. as of right now i'm slated for a feb 18th re-deployment but it's my guess that that'll change before too long.
