on the night shift
welp, i am now officially part of the night shift. hours are 10pm - 8am ... ouch! last night i walked into the crary building with a vague idea of what to do. ten hours later, i had cleaned 4 bathrooms (top to bottom), swept and mopped most of phase I (which is huge by the way), emptied the burnable trash from the building, vacuumed the huge upstairs library/break area/meeting room, wiped up the common kitchen areas in both phase I and phase II and swept and mopped the fragile microscope room; a room which houses microscopes that sit on desks that float on a small cushion of air. high tech stuff...be very very careful i was told. no stress.
i spent my break hangin out with the animals in the aquatic room. in there they've got a smattering of various sea animals which have been collected from the ross sea region. in there you'll find anything from star fish of various sizes, shapes and colors to fish, some as big as your hand, some as big as your dog like the antarctic cod, aka: Mawsoni, named after the legendary antarctic explorer Douglas Mawson - pictures to follow.
during my shift i was privy to a most beautiful sunset (or sunrise, not sure) with beautiful reds and yellows. again, pics to follow. i think i'll warm up to the new shift in time. today is a bit rough as i was awakened about 5 hours into my sleep by my guitar playin/folk singin neighbor. not the greatest of ways to be awakened. maybe we can work out a deal where he plays my favorite song or somethin...
wanted to say thanks too to those people out there who have contacted me. it's nice to hear from everyone and what is new up there. keep them comin!
