on ice

after a mini holiday in christchurch where we snowboarded mt. hutt and hot springed till our fingers turned pruney, i'm happy to say i'm away from the unknowing haphazard chaos that is getting to the ice. it's nice to have you stuff in one place now and know that it's gonna sit there for the next 5 months. the cold here is staggering. just this evening i went out at 10pm to shoot some video of the sunset...that is, until my camera froze up on me. luckily i had a back up. here's a view out the front of McMurdo looking across the sea ice. i'd tell you what mountain range that is but i haven't memorized it yet and it's late and i can't be bothered to look it up.

[big size]

all goes well thus far and i'm enjoying all things McMurdo. i was trained today in the janitorial arts by one of my co-workers, peter, one of the many cool people down here. i am slated to begin the night shift before too long and i'm looking forward to getting in that groove. some of the buildings on my route will include, crary lab (where all the cool science happens), the arobics room, the weight room, the bowling alley, the heavy machine shop and probably part of the main big building-155...the building i live in. 155 is kind of like the hub. HR is here, the computer lab is here, cafeteria is here, ATM is here, barber is here, housing office is here and i'm sure to be leaving out some other things as well. i share a room with two others and we have one empty corner which is most likely reserved for people just stopping through for a brief visit. my roommates are agreeable which is a good thing. one's a mechanic and the other is a plumber-both great guys.

as soon as i can figure out how to put up a web gallery i'll let you all know. i slapped the first of many together this evening after dinner. it's almost midnight and i'm the only one in the lab, maybe i should get some sleep. hope everyone is well.
