Do you still have your midi disc thingy? Does that record? Mini disc might be the way to go for you. I looked for some used portable DATs but couldn't find any. Does your camera record sound?
This is what you need but its still going for $800. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0002N3LRY/qid%3D1098922256/sr%3D11-1/ref%3Dsr%5F11%5F1/103-1533880-2077443
That's what we paid for it just before we came to New Zealand.
As for a mic I really like our Audio Technica studio mic. They're cheaper but still good quality. Here is their shotgun mic: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0002D093I/sr=1-1/qid=1098922379/ref=sr_1_1/103-1533880-2077443?%5Fencoding=UTF8&n=11965861&s=musical-instruments&v=glance only $222.
You'll need the whole wind screen contraption to go with of course, and a boom operator like you mentioned.
mark and james, thanks for the input on the audio gear. much appreciated. i'm on it. hopefully i'll be back on track before too long. can't thank you enough!
Great pics :) Was watching a cool show with Will last night .. it was a lunar eclipse night, but the show was on a full eclipse a year ago and it had HD footage from none other than Antarctica! .. they even showed McMurdo base briefly. I just said Hey .. MM is there!
pretty cool news re: full eclipse. wish i could have witnessed that one! mel has not gotten in touch with me but i await her contact. hope all is well up that way.

Great stuff G. I *am* impressed with that dust bunny.
Are getting more acclimated to the physical labor part?
How's your ankle?
